Commodore Zakiur Rahman Bhuiyan joined Bangladesh Navy in October 1977 as an Officer Cadet and commissioned in Electrical Branch in April 1980. He completed BSc Engineering in Electrical and Electronics from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka. The Commodore completed Long Electrical Specialization Course from INS Valsura, India in 1985. He is a graduate of Defence Service Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is also a graduate of Armed Forces Staff College, Malaysia. He has completed Masters in Defence Studies under National University, Gazipur, Bangladesh and MBA in Executive Management under Royal Roads University, Canada.

The Commodore served onboard various ships of Bangladesh Navy in various capacity. Besides this, he held various important appointments like Directing Staff in DSCSC, Instructor in  Electrical School, Staff Officer, Director and Naval Secretary in Naval Headquarters. Presently he is appointed as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Logistics).

Commodore Zakiur Rahman is happily married to Tuhina Parveen and blessed with two daughters and one son. He is widely traveled person and has keen interest of reading books.
