Rear Admiral M Farid Habib, ndc,
psc was born into a respectable Muslim family
in Tangail in 1959. He joined the Bangladesh
Navy as an officer cadet on 08 July 1976. He
attended International Midshipman Course in
Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, UK
in 1977. Later, he was commissioned in the
Executive Branch in BN on 01 January 1979.
Rear
Admiral Farid Habib attended various courses
both at home and abroad. He attended Short
Navigation Course in Australia in 1983,
Navigation & Direction Course in Pakistan in
1985, Missile Course under Chinese Experts in
1986, Command and Staff Course at Mirpur,
Dhaka in 1989, Naval Staff Course at Newport,
USA in 1991, Base Mine Sweeper Course in China
in 1994, Joint Warfare Course in UK in 1999,
Sea Safety Training Course in UK in 2002, and
National Defence Course at Dhaka in 2006. He
did Masters in Defence Studies under National
University, Gazipur in 2004.
During his long and
illustrious carrier in the Bangladesh Navy,
Rear Admiral Farid Habib successfully
commanded various ships of all sizes which
includes 3 Frigates, Patrol Craft, Mine
Sweeper and Missile Boats. He served as
Commandant, Bangladesh Naval Academy, Patenga.
He also served as Directing Staff (Instructor)
and Col GS at Defence Services Command and
Staff College, Mirpur, Dhaka.
Rear Admiral
Farid Habib also held the top command
positions which includes Commodore Commanding
BN Flotilla (COMBAN), Commodore Commanding
Khulna (COMKHUL) and Naval Administrative
Authority, Dhaka. Besides, he served at
Naval Headquarters as Assistant Chief of Naval
Staff (Personnel), Director of Naval
Operations, Director of Naval Plans, Director
of Signals, Director of Naval Armament
Inspection and Supply, Naval Secretary and
Judge Advocate General. He also served as
Director of Plans in
Bangladesh
Coast Guard. Presently, he is serving as
Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) at
Naval Headquarters.
Rear Admiral Farid Habib is
married to Begum Hafiza Habib and has a small
closely-knit family of one son and one
daughter. He loves to pass his leisure time in
reading various periodicals and magazines. |
