Commodore Shawkat Imran, (ND), ndc, psc, BN was born into a respectable Muslim family in Barisal in 1961. He joined the Bangladesh Navy as an officer cadet on 05 November 1979. He attended International Midshipman Course and Sub Lieutenant Course in Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, UK in 1981 and 1983 respectively. Later, he was commissioned in the Executive Branch in BN on 05 May 1982.

               Commodore Imran is specialized in Navigation & Direction from India. He is a graduate of Defense Services Command & Staff College, Bangladesh. He attended higher Defence Orientation Course in Indian Army War College, India, SA International Humanitarian Law Course from Srilanka, Asia Pacific Center Advanced Security Studies Course, USA and Disaster Management Course in Bangladesh. He has successfully completed NDC from National  Defence College, Mirpur, Dhaka.

                 During his long and illustrious carrier in the Bangladesh Navy, Commodore Imran successfully commanded various ships of all sizes which include Frigates, Patrol Craft, Mine Sweeper and Missile Craft. He served as Staff Officer Operation to COMBAN and Operational Sea Training Commander (OSTG). Commodore Imran also successfully commanded shore establishment like BNS ISSA KHAN and BNS TITUMIR.

                During his service, Commodore Imran was appointed in many Staff appointments.  He served as - Flag Lt to CNS, G-1 Navy in DGFI, Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence (DDNI), Executive Officer and Training Cdr of Bangladesh Naval Academy, Drafting Commander and Naval Secretary at Naval Headquarters. And on deputation he served as Director (Personnel) in Bangladesh Coast Guard and Managing Director Khulna Ship Yard. Presently Commodore Shawkat Imran assumed the duties of Commodore Commanding BN Flotilla on 03 January 2012.

               Commodore Imran is a widely traveled person, who visited China, Egypt, France, India, Italy, Morocco, Malaysia, Netherland, Oman, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Tajikistan, Thailand, UAE, UK, USA, Uzbekistan etc.

                 Commodore Shawkat Imran is happily married to Azra Imran and blesses with one daughter. He is a keen sportsman represented BN Basketball and volleyball team in various Inter service and national level. His interest includes travelling and reading.
