1. The direct entry sailors
normally form the core of the service. From recruitment
to the rank of Ordinary Seaman, a sailor does various
courses. First of all, on recruitment they attend a 20
weeks Boot Camp training where sailors are given basic
Naval Orientation training. After which the unclassified
sailors are allocated branches |

according to their aptitude i.e. Seaman,
Technical, S & S etc. The classified sailors are then
sent to various Schools for Basic professional training
of 36-48 weeks. The technical sailors go to Engineering
and Electrical School and Seaman go to Seamanship School
and so forth.

2.
On completion of basic professional training sailors
irrespective of their branch are sent onboard ships
for practical application of their theoretical
knowledge.

3.
The Seaman sailors after about 1½ to 2 years at Sea
are sent for basic specialisation course in different
trade known as the third rate course which vary
between 10-27 weeks. The third rate course are the
first step towards their Higher professional training.
In order to go up the ladder a seaman branch sailor
has to undergo various professional courses in the
rank of AB, LDG and PO. |

Professional Trg ( 17-72 weeks )
c. PO - CPO Divisional
& Leadership Course ( 10 weeks ). |

4.
Similarly, the technical and the supply branch sailors
also need to attend various courses at the respective
Schools in different ranks in order to achieve required
professional training in their own fields. |
